In 2020, we have two really large sets in the City series and here I mean not the number of bricks in the box, but what we can build from them. Soon we will present you a set with a passenger plane, but today we will take a closer look at the set called “Ocean Exploration Ship”.
We only have 745 bricks here, but we will use it to build a 63 cm long floating science vessel. The ship is huge – the longest ship in the City series ever presented.
In the set we have two animals and it is interesting enough that it is worth mentioning them – a new larger shark and a new stingray.
We have 7 minifigures – the only one known by name is Harl Hubbs, who was a mechanic in a car repair shop and appears in episodes of the TV series. The rest of them fulfill their roles on the ship and the stories you can create here. We have several extras here. And so – there is a small helicopter that, surprisingly, is not similar to other helicopters in the series – it is interesting. There is a small raft – simple but fun. There is a bathyscaphe for a minifgure to enter. Finally, there is a pirate ship part with a hidden treasure. As you can see a lot is going on and it gives you the opportunity to play.
The huge ship itself also has interesting elements for fun – we have a movable, sliding crane with a cage for researching the behavior of sharks and rays. The second crane is at the stern of the ship and is used to lower the pontoon. The so-called ship’s superstructure looks interesting – it consists of three floors. Looking from above, we have a captain’s bridge with two seats, below we have cabins with beds and downstairs we have a research room with a computer, aquarium, coffee making corner and a table for conversations. Everything is glazed and tastefully done.
The bathyscaphe has its place in the bow of the ship, where it can be hidden and above it there is a helipad. Everything is well arranged and working.
The set is not cheap, but I think it is worth the money because it gives a lot of possibilities for creative play and looks good.
