The space flight center is a set that probably makes no sense to praise a real fan of Lego bricks, but maybe undecided parents who are wondering what to buy for a child for Christmas will read this description and stop wondering …
A set definitely for children’s play, rather AFOL will not find the level of fun and flavors here as in the case of, for example, the re-edition of the Lego Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V set (92176). But for kids aged 6 to 13, it will be the toy of the year. And – by the way – i was awarded as the construction toy of the year 2020 in the annual Toy of the Year (TOTY) awards. It is like the “Oscars” of the toy industry where The Toy Association recognizes the best of the best among toys, games, and properties within the year.
It’s one of those sets that gives you much more fun when assembled than while building it. It’s really easy to build and pretty fast. What do we get after a few hours?
First of all, the rocket – a large, solid one with space for loading a small shuttle, a cockpit with space for one astronaut, but without any instruments (more like a storage for a figure). Of course, launchers can fall off the main module (after all, this is a project agreed with NASA).
In addition, a launch pad with an interesting function to play with. Well, during the rocket launch, the rocket props fall off the rocket. It is a pity that there is no realistic ladder or elevator for transporting astronauts, but as I wrote at the beginning, this is a toy for children and not adults.
A lot of fun for kids will certainly be brought by the launch control building itself, along with a transport ramp with a stroller for astronauts. The building is aesthetically made with a lot of glazing, but the most fun will be the movable elements of the control board and the possibility of inserting a smartphone inside with an application turned on, which imitates a real screen of an launch control. Great thing, and I guess that was the main argument that made this set win this prestigious Toy of the Year award. Just wow …
If you do not have this set yet and there is a child in your family who is even a little bit interested in space exploration (and who does not?), it is simply a must have…
