Who among us, being a child, did not dream of a toy train? Probably many of you also wanted to become an engine driver. Today, children have different games and equipment to fulfill their fantasies, but the train is still a dream toy for many of them. In 2018, Lego added a modern passenger train to its catalog in the City series. Here’s what we think about it.
Train sets have been a staple in Lego catalogs for years. The currently available passenger train is made to measure for our times. To assemble the set, we get 677 bricks, including, of course, engine with a battery container (6 x AAA – we suggest you buy batteries for charging) and PoweredUp Hub. In addition to the train itself, we have the option to assemble a small train platform and signal – however, they are really basic and not worth much attention as themselves, but certainly useful in the City system.
There are four minifigures – an engine driver, a saleswoman in a restaurant car, a passenger female with a green suitcase and a young boy in a Lego Benny T-shirt and a shoulder bag. Interestingly, the bearded driver appears in this set for the first time – there has never been such a head before. The female passenger also has a second version of the facial expression in which she just sleeps.
The railway set includes a locomotive and two carriages – one for restaurant and the other for passenger. From the outside, the set looks very nice, unfortunately, after removing the roof, we have the opportunity to look inside and it is poor there. Nothing special is happening there and we didn’t even take pictures of the inside because it just looked so poor. In addition, I miss the doors to the wagons, and to be exact, it would be useful if there was a vehicle similar to the engine at the end of the train – after all, real trainsets all look like that at the moment …
To control the train we can use either controller included in the set or connect it to the PoweredUP application on the phone, where we get additional control and sound functions. Fun thing for kids.
We also get a very basic set of tracks – just that. For real fun you need to buy additional tracks and crossovers.
Overall, everything looks ok and we highly recommend it. It is hours of fun for a child.
